Zero to Unemployed in one afternoon.

Yup. I am now part of the nations unemployed.

This afternoon, after several projects were finished at work. I was told that I was being laid off.

Part of me says "Fuck". Part of me thinks that this gives me the chance to start my own business. Right now, I really can't put too much thought into it, but at least I've been planning for the own business idea for some time now.

*sigh*

Bacon! Is there anything it can't do?

I rode home yesterday and was really beat when I got in. Bad enough that I was certain I would skip fencing practice. My mood was down, I felt tired. I didn't want to go. I was also hungry and pawed around my fridge for something to make for dinner. Pickins' were scarce, but I did find that I had an open package of bacon that I decided to finish off before it went bad. Five strips of bacon later I was energized and ready for fencing. I dressed up, readied my gear and was out the door in time for practice. I didn't last incredibly long, but I was surprised at how many bouts I was able to have and how well I did consdiering my fatigue level.

Its all thanks to... bacon!

Spring Cleaning

The weather has warmed up a bit, although not enough to justify my annual 'fling-open-all-the-windows-and-play-Stravinksky's-'Rite of Spring'-until-the-cats-freak-out'. I've decided, since I don't have a life to speak of right now, to do some Spring Cleaning. I'm being patient about it, and doing about one room per day.

Lyra woke me up this morning in a very odd manner. My electronic keyboard was leaning up against the wall, and unknown to me it was on. It had been set to some kind of soft electronic bell sound. Well Lyra decided to rub her face against it, resulting in me waking to a very unfamiliar sound.

There's a few things in this apartment that have alarms that I am very unfamiliar with: The battery back-up to the computer, the oven alarm, and other things. When these go off it can be rather disconcerting, even more so when it wakes you up from sleeping. Anyway, moments of intense sleepy confusion were resolved when Lyra repeated the rubbing process and hit more keys this time. Mystery solved.

OK, I must return to cleaning this room. Ugh.

I just don't get winter any more

Two days ago I was roasting on my bike ride home from work. I had dressed for the cool morning, and subsequently was toasty in my winter riding socks, and long sleeve bike clothes.

The evening, I had to shovel multiple inches of sleet and ice to unstuck my car from the back alley where my so called parking space is. Then I had to dig the sleet n ice to get enough traction to get my car into said space.

Meh.

Its an Early Daylight Savings Time!

Oh joy! An act of Congress means I get to adjust the Wall of Clocks a bit sooner than last year.

Seriously, its like the wall of clocks is going to become a semiannual joke here at The Former Telescope Mercenary.

Flower Show

I went to the Flower Show this evening. Lo and behold, who should I run into but http://www2.blogger.com/img/gl.link.gifJadegirl. Got to talk with her for a while but nowhere near long enough. She promised that she would visit Philly in April. I shall hold you to that, JG!

Went to the Vietnamese restaruant afterwards. Had a vermicelli rice dish that was tres yummy.

On the way home, I was reminded of why I don't like walking down Vine street.

Eclipse

I tried to watch the lunar eclipse last night.

The sky conditions were not agreeable.

Bah.
