More Kitten Cuteness

The Kitten now has a name. At least for now. Her name is 'Zot'. So shall it be written.

Anyway, Zot went to the vet today and got a checkup. The vet group was glad to see me (having last seen me when SaraBelle died) and they were all charmed by Zot. Zot got a clean bill of health (dewormed, blood sampled (no Leukemia or AIDS). So she is a bit more free to roam the apartment (I am confining her to the reading room when I am out). This is vast improvement since yesterday this room just got so freaking warm with the door shut.

Anyway, here are some more pictures:

First she hides behind that enemy of all kitties: A computer keyboard:

Then she meets Brother. Both cats have handled this fairly well. Brother was curious, but still wary (and wants to eat kitten food!) Lyra kept her distance but did not make a single hiss. She must be mellowing with age.

Anyway, here is Brother checking out Zot.

I gots kitten!

Thanks to Violet_Amy for the heads up that some little meepers were hiding under a tractor at her sister-in-laws place. This afternoon we went out and fetched one of the little fuzzies and I took her (I assume her) home. Here are some pics

She arrives at the home, nonplussed

Slightly Crippled.

After fencing our fencing group's somewhat insane Captain, he pointed out to me on one shot I should have raised my arm higher to make a strike from a higher angle. This made sense, but then I told him that I cannot really raise my right arm very high.

Thing is, this was not some speech I gave out a hundred times before. Its something that I've been partially aware of for sometime. My right shoulder is somewhat impaired as far as raising my arm is concerned.

Oh, I can raise my arm, but it is very slow and stiff. The body does not like this abuse, and I certainly cannot bring it to bear with any decent speed during fencing. It does not hurt, per se, it just does not want to go.

I've been aware of this for a while in the sense that I sleep on my side, with my arm tucked underneath the pillow. For a long time I have not been able to sleep on my right side since my shoulder does not feel comfortable in that position.

This is odd: I've been aware of this condition for some time, but last night was the first time I acknowledged it out loud. Weird.

Rain Rain Rain

Had a nice Nor'Easter hanging above the Philadelphia region yesterday. Most of the East Coast for that matter.

According to my rain gauge, we got some 3.9" yesterday. Oy.

EDIT: And I found out this afternoon that that much rain is enough to overwhelm the seal on the right side of my car. The back passenger seat had a few gallons of water in it as of this afternoon. Thankfully my friend had a wet/dry vac adn I was able to get most of it up. I'm sure I'll be getting internal fogging all the time once the sun comes back.

Brain Drain...

Writing a Business Plan ain't easy. Mind you, its lots of stuff that I already have in mind but need to communicate to others who might want, you know, loan me money for this business venture. Still, its amazingly mind numbing and repetitive.

I'm glad I had the SCORE forms to guide me through this, but man...

...I am too numbed to be tired.

First Week of Unemployment

Well this was the first week of being without a job. I promised myself that I would do almost nothing towards my future as I didn't want to strain myself by jumping right into the job hunt. The advice on this seems to have changed since my last bout with unemployment. I didn't completely slug out: I did apply for unemployment and now resent my former employer for using poor terms, dates and other issues on the termination form they gave to me. Is there a difference between 'Severence Pay' and 'Seperation Payment'? Not to my eyes, but the former is the term preferred by the NJ Unemployment insurance (motto: You paid us for nothing, get over it) wheras the more 'PC' term seems to be used by my former employer to be more of a warm fuzzy. Either way, confusion ensued and I was battered between two beaurocracies.

I also did some more research on wholesalers and have been looking at a few candidates from SCORE, which is a good resource to help folks starting their own business. Next week I plan to start work on a business plan. I also want to dust off my resume just in case my plans fall apart in the early stages.

Wish me luck folks. This is unkown territory for me.
