Yet more Photos of Zot.

So some folks have been requesting more photos of Zot. This is not as easy as you might think, since any sound that comes from the camera (such as the flash popping up) means that Zot will almost immediately stop whatever cute thing she was doing and race to the camera. The result is you get photos that look like this:

Or, more often like this:

But I did manage to luck out and catch Zot and Brother in an ongoing fight. About four good photos came out of it. Here's the start of the struggle. Where Brother has Zot in a headlock:

The fight moved elsewhere, resulting in a shot that cries out for a ICANHASCHEEZEBURGER logo. (Invisible Something!)

Next shot has Brother trying to teach the little Zot a lesson.

But oh noes! Zot gets a bite in on Brother's paw! Go Zot!

A Moment of Science for Mr. Wizard

As many of you know, Mr. Wizard died last week. In honor of the man, the skepchick, Rebecca Watson, has proposed a moment of science be made in his honor. I would like to try to make one myself. Perhaps a simple demonstration of leverage with a fully grown cat and my little kitten, Zot. trouble is, I do not have a digital camera that can do this. Hrmmm.

The Week Thus Far.

Its been a little odd this week. I haven't been home in the evening for the entire week. First there were workshops on Monday and Tuesday, then fencing on Wednesday, followed by a visit to my parents for dinner on Thursday. Tonight I am going to a friend's house.

Speaking of the workshops, they've been going pretty well. It seems that about 90% of the class is to make you think about what you are doing and make certain you have a clue about what you are getting into. I have demonstrated pretty well to them that at the very least I know what the hell I am talking about and what the competition is.

Speaking of competition, I was wandering around Philly today sort-of scouting possible locations. I went into the (rather lonely) Hobby store on 3rd & Market. By heaven is my witness I do not want my store to ever resemble this store in any way. It is claustrophobic, dirty, and has a rather uninvolved staff. I thought when Rodney Anonymous referred to it as the 'saddest place store town' he was just doing some ol' geek bashing. But it seems he was right about the place. Although they are not strictly competition per se, they are definitely in a similar category. My store must never resemble theirs.

Now its time for Emo Boy drama. I got a bit of a slight lately from someone I consider a friend. Nothing huge, just a rather flagrant shut out. Don't worry, if you are reading this it is almost certainly not you. And it definitely isn't anyone who comments here nor is it a very close friend. Its not a huge thing, its just been something of a slight that's been nagging at me.

Yeah, yeah, I know. I'll go eat a box of Macaroni and Sorrow and get the fuck over it.

The Obligatory Attendance.

So I went to the NJ career thingy. Big whoop. It was short, thank goodness. Oddly enough the other person who was laid off when I was was also there. Weird.

Muddling through the week.

I had a bit of a cold over the weekend. Nothing really debilitating, but the recovery has actually been worse than the cold. I went to fencing practice last night but found that I was very slow, tired and listless. After two bouts I decided to call it quits and left after only being there for about 45 minutes.

I had my second session with Wharton monday night and this time the assignment was both more concrete and more vague. I think I got most of it taken care of, but we shall see. I'm just hoping that I have a head-to-head session with some of the profs. or something soon. I think I've at least established that I know what I am talking about...especially in comparison to some of the others at these workshops. But I am in the high risk category, so it remains to be seen if I get the guidance I need to get things rolling and if I can qualify for some of the sweeter benefits (like incubator retail space! pleasepleaseplease!).

Tomorrow I must travel into Jersey for another one of their 'oh-so-helpful' employments sessions that are perfectly designed for car washers and data entry clerks. I've been trying to rework my resume so that it fits on one page. Not easy. I kinda had to drop my work in the 90's.

To War! Or a simulation therof.

So this weekend was the Bordentown. Its been 10 years since we were at Bordentown and the last time we were there we were kicked off the field and told never to return. (This decision was quickly reversed). This weekends bit of reenacting fun did not start off well: I was woken by the sound of my doorbell, to find Bill ready to go. I had not even showered yet! Fortunately, my gear was already to go so I just hopped into the shower, got my smallclothes on, and tossed stuff into Bill's car.

The battle was in the afternoon and it was blazing hot, with lots of sun. The end of the battle had us starting directly at the sun top make the final charge. We were not well used as a unit and the battle was a bit frustrating for us. On the bright side, there were almost 30 Hessians assembled. About 14 Grenadiers, 12 Musketeers, and 4 musicians. This is one of the largest Hessian forces I have ever seen assembled. You can see our forces in open formation:

(She calls us colonials...oh well.)

Overall, there was quite a number of troops on the field. Several hundred on each side. Each side also had about 6 cannon as well. It made for an impressive show.

Bill & I were daytripping it, so we headed home after some chitchat with other members of the unit. I was hot, sweaty, and sunburned. It overall hadn't been a great event so far.

Sunday changed all that. The day was much cooler and overcast (although the sun came out just for the battle). This time we were much more involved in the battle and the ending was real fun. I hope there will be some pictures available soon, but for now all I have is the link above.

Weekend Warriordom away!

I posted the picture of Zot and someone could not resist giving it the I CAN HAS CHEEZBURGER treatment. The results are below.

This weekend is a British Brigade event in Bordentown (just North of Trenton). So I've been rolling cartridges and cleaning gear and muskets. The weather is warm today but should cool down a bit tomorrow. Won't be perfect like Wednesday's weather, but for a June event it will do.

Just a waste of a Saturday Evening

There's a 'I got bored with the kitten, so I threw it away' joke to be made here, but I think I'd get killed. Seriously, this is one of the better pics of Zot I have taken recently. usually the anti-red-eye feature of the camera flash makes her squint and she looks mean and bored, rather than the wide-eyed, overexcitable ball of fluff that she is.
