Battle of Trenton 2007

Yesterday was the battle of Trenton reenactment. I got a ride from different folks that usual (no big deal). We were rather surprised that Hessians were the only crown forces that showed up for the battle. Adding to the 'fun' was that the rebels showed up in huge numbers so that we were outnumbered about 10 to 1. Yikes!

With that said, I think I won't be attending the battle next year. The severely cut budget of the Barracks has shown this year in poor crowd control. The event always has a bit of wonky street fighting, but this year they failed to move parked cars, and had only three officers for traffic control. The result? Well, we dang near had a few cars racing through the battle. I think the Battle of Germantown has four times as many cops and they only have to block off 1 two-way street (and a side street). This level of safety screw up has me thinking I'll skip it next year.

New Tires

My car now has four new tires. I took it in for a bolt in one tire and a likely slow leak in another. When checking the tires, they found three nails in the third tire. They were worn, so I figured it was best to just replace them all and be done with it. The car drives a lot steadier now, I will say.

Part of the reason I am posting this is because it will be a reminder to me that I have lifetime balancing and rotation on the tires. The car is at 65,000 and I should rotate them at 69,000.

Look, leaving myself a note or something would just mean I lose the note and forget.

Lyra. R.I.P.

Given Lyra's rapid decline since her diagnosis (her eyes were sunken, crusted, she was listless, and wouldn't even lick my fingers) I decided not to put off the inevitable. I took her to the vet this morning and had her put down.

Goodbye, girl.

Lyra, the bad news.

I got the message from the vet today. Lyra's kidneys are failing. There's really nothing to be done. I have to have her put down and its a question of when. This is a lot harder because it came a lot faster than SaraBelle's death, and when it came time to put down SaraBelle it was a much easier since there was nothing much left of 'SaraBelle'. Lyra is still somewhat 'there', just exhausted and run-down looking.

She's my first kitty. She's my tripod, my white fuzzy meatloaf, my precious little Lyra, my curmudgeon, my factory reject kitty, my bestest kitty.

She isn't gone yet, and I already miss her.

Lyra at the Vet

I took Lyra to the vet today. She may have a kidney infection or something worse. She's lost a lot of weight since her last visit (4 lbs over 2 years). OK, no more diet food, time to fatten the girl up, even if it means Brother gets a bit pudgy. She also seemed a bit listless when I got her home, slogging to the litterbox (hey, at least she was using it) and struggling a bit to get into it. I hope this was just a bit of being tired on her part and not a sign of something serious. I can't go through what I went through with SaraBelle again, I just can't.

This is about a 1/4 block away from where I live.

Older Cat Woes

Lyra has, once again, taken to peeing in places that are not the litterbox. This usually means the bed, which involves lots of cleaning and no fun for me.

This has happened before, and it usually means she's got a bladder infection of some kind. I'll be contacting the vet and hopefully this will be the case (usually cleared up with a few antibiotics). I worry because some day it might mean the old girl's kidneys are giving out. She is around 14 years old at this point and is starting to take on that scruffy older cat look.

Cool

I am now the Iron Bog Rapier Champion.

I am also once again a fully fledged East Kingdom Rapier Marshall.

Productive day, yesterday was. I'm wondering how the store did.
