To War! Or a simulation therof.

So this weekend was the Bordentown. Its been 10 years since we were at Bordentown and the last time we were there we were kicked off the field and told never to return. (This decision was quickly reversed). This weekends bit of reenacting fun did not start off well: I was woken by the sound of my doorbell, to find Bill ready to go. I had not even showered yet! Fortunately, my gear was already to go so I just hopped into the shower, got my smallclothes on, and tossed stuff into Bill's car.

The battle was in the afternoon and it was blazing hot, with lots of sun. The end of the battle had us starting directly at the sun top make the final charge. We were not well used as a unit and the battle was a bit frustrating for us. On the bright side, there were almost 30 Hessians assembled. About 14 Grenadiers, 12 Musketeers, and 4 musicians. This is one of the largest Hessian forces I have ever seen assembled. You can see our forces in open formation:

(She calls us colonials...oh well.)

Overall, there was quite a number of troops on the field. Several hundred on each side. Each side also had about 6 cannon as well. It made for an impressive show.

Bill & I were daytripping it, so we headed home after some chitchat with other members of the unit. I was hot, sweaty, and sunburned. It overall hadn't been a great event so far.

Sunday changed all that. The day was much cooler and overcast (although the sun came out just for the battle). This time we were much more involved in the battle and the ending was real fun. I hope there will be some pictures available soon, but for now all I have is the link above.
